A graduate in Engineering from Politecnico di Milano with postgraduate studies at University of California (Berkeley), he is Professor Emeritus at Politecnico di Milano, where he also served for many years as Pro-Rector.
He is founder and President Emeritus of the Fondazione Politecnico.
He has been a member of the Board of Directors of many listed Italian companies and certain international foundations, as well as Chairman of Intesa San Paolo Private Banking.
One of his current roles is as a member of the Board of Directors of Banca del Sempione SA.
On 3 May 2021, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banca del Sempione SA.
