J70 - Campionato europeo

Junda-Banca del Sempione takes a prestigious third place in the J70 class European Championship held in Hyeres from 12 to 17 September

The J70 class European Championship was held in Hyeres, on the south coast of France, during the week of September 12 to 17.

The great vitality of the class worldwide is confirmed by the 88 crews representing nineteen nations who took part in this spectacular event.

Seven regattas were held over five days, characterised by highly variable wind conditions. From the quiet wind of the first two days to the strong Mistral which began to blow strongly on Thursday and continued to increase so much that it was not possible to hold any races on the final day on Saturday, for safety reasons.

Junda-Banca del Sempione was at the start in an unusual and untested crew configuration.  Junda chose to replace the professional tactician Stefano Cherin with a non-professional tactician in order to compete in the Corinthian classification. Corinthian ranking has great traditions in the sailing world, and it is reserved for crews without professionals on board: 40 Corinthian crews out of the 88 boats were at the start of the event. Despite the lack of training, Junda sailed at top level finishing on the podium, taking a prestigious third place.
